Shower drain Relocation kits:
- Drilling Hammer
- Level measuring instrument
- Hammer
- Marker
- Shower drain installation manual
- Cardboard for tracing centered drainpipe hole
- Drainage pipe extension
- Hacksaw
Now, let’s start with the step-by-step guide to center your shower drain plumbing. Our first step would be to pull out our old drainage assembly. So, do as we suggest:
- First, mark the center of your bathroom floor or where you want your drain set with a marker.
- Next, place a cardboard sheet over the shower floor to mark around and over the cardboard the exact placement position of the pipe. Take inside of a two-inch coupler to mark the drainpipe outlet through the floor and the cardboard. This will help you reposition the drainage assembly after you break the concretes.
- Drill and chip the concrete around the present shower drain.
- Then pull out the drainage assembly.
Quite the labor, right? But the fact is after you set up the drain, you are officially fit for solving any homestead problem. So, just take a breath and continue onwards with our second step to position the new drainage assembly.
- Now drill and chip away the concrete around the center or where you want to put the new drain setting. Keep an inch or more hole around the estimated drain pipe outlet.
- Afterward, place the p-trap in the estimated location and over the floor, place the cardboard template for precise positioning.
- Your next step is connecting the drain line to the p-trap with a two-inch pipe and a coupler. Rotating the 90° coupler of the p-trap will give you plenty of independence to get the mouth of it through the marked cardboard template cut.
- Now measure the distance between the p-trap hub and the drainpipe outlet (make sure they are aligned straightly with each other. Add two into three-quarters of an inch with the measured distance and cut a pipe of that size.
With it, you reached the final step. That is implanting the new drain and saying goodbye to your old problems for good. Brace yourself for a good rest after finishing, and you deserve it.
- Firstly, adjust everything for one last time before gluing the connection permanently to assure everything is aligned.
- Next, apply primer and glue over the pipe ends and inside of the couplers for each connection one by one. Then connect and hold the position of the pipes with your hand for at least ten seconds.
- Finally, after the glue and the connection are completely dry, pour some water. It will not leak hopefully, otherwise apply a sealant over the leaks.
With it, you’ve successfully relocated your shower drain. Oh, wait! Are we forgetting something? Yes. The floor still looks like a mess. To take care of it, apply pebbles beneath your concrete slab. Then pour mixed concrete over the setting to make it permanent.

One more thing, if you install a shower base, you don’t need to worry about floor leveling. On the other hand, make sure the floor is sloped towards the drain pipe if it’s a point drain. Use a level to determine the sloping. Moreover, lay your shower floor tiles at least three mm above the shower drain top along with sloping.
Another thing before we conclude this section, the traditional pipe size for drain assembly is a 2-inch offset shower drain. Yes, a 3 inch offset shower drain can drain more efficiently, but you need couplers, P-traps, pipe extensions, and measurements according to your 3-inch drain to fit them perfectly.
Now, off to the next solution
Cleaning Shower Drain And Dirt Stain
How often do you clean your shower drain? Well, that depends on your drain type. If it is a linear drain, clean it regularly. If it is a point drain (grill drain), cleaning once a week is enough.
And, the drain base systems require the least maintenance. Cleaning the drain once or twice a month is sufficient.
For cleaning the drain line in an efficient DIY method, first, gush boiling water into the drainpipe. Then add one part vinegar and one part soda and pour it down the pipe too. It should take care of some unwavering clogs.
If it doesn’t help, pry open the sieve and insert bendable metal to locate and dislodge the clog. Clogs usually form nearer to the drain, so hopefully, you will find it sooner than later. For more persistent clogs, you may opt for professional help. Trying hard to unclog them can damage the drain.
And, cleaning the dirt stain, on the other hand, is a relatively easier and more fun part. Who doesn’t like to remove visible stains? It’s refreshing.

- Spray the solution and cover your shower floor and pan.
- The solution will automatically scrub rough water strains if you let it settle for ten minutes.
- After it, wipe clean the floor with a cotton-threaded cloth.
Other than vinegar solution, you can also use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar (the above-mentioned solution to unclog your drain) or some market cleaners too.
Sloping The Floor
If your shower floor takes longer to dry after each use, then it’s your floor that is not leveled correctly. To verify that it’s your poor floor sloping that is causing the persistent wetness, you can dam-test your shower drain as follows
- At first, clog the drain.
- Then, turn on the shower until the water level reaches two-inch higher than the drain hole.
- Finally, remove the clog.
Now observe the water rushing through the drain. (If it doesn’t, then our bad. Go back to the “Cleaning Shower Drain” Section) See the wet accumulation in various places on your shower floor? You need to slope those places.
So, if your bathroom floor is tiled, remove them and make sure you use a floor level. Then relay the tiles and slope them accordingly.
A shower drain not centered can also function well enough with a good slope. Linear drain solely depends on uncentered sloping.
